Bank Of England Base Rate – November 2023

Bank rate maintained at 5.25 November 2023

Bank rate maintained at 5.25% – November 2023

The Bank of England has announced its decision to maintain the UK interest rates at 5.25%, keeping them at a 15-year peak.

Despite some members of the Monetary Policy Committee advocating for a 0.25% hike, the vote concluded 6-3 in favour of maintaining the current rate.

The BoE explained, “The sustained rate aims to combat prolonged high inflation, even though it signifies elevated borrowing costs for many.”

Governor Andrew Bailey stressed that easing inflation doesn’t signal imminent rate cuts. He mentioned, “It’s much too early to be thinking about rate cuts,” and added, “We’ll be watching closely to see if further rate increases are needed.”
