UK inflation falls 1.1%
The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH) rose by 6.4% in the 12 months to July 2023, down from 7.3% in June.

When the rate of inflation falls, it does not mean that prices are coming down, but that they are rising less quickly.
The Bank of England’s target is 2%.
Will inflation going down affect the Bank of England base rate?
Despite a drop to 6.8% in inflation, an interest rate increase is still anticipated in September.
The Bank has steadily increased interest rates to 5.25%, the highest level in 15 years, meaning mortgage costs have jumped and savings rates have increased.
Prior to this data, market predictions estimated the base rate to peak at about 6%.
